Doctor of Physical Therapy Students Presented Research
Thirty-four University of Scranton Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) students who presented research at the American Physical Therapy Association's Combined Sectors Meeting in Washington, D.C., in January. The students conducted the research and made the poster presentations with seven physical therapy faculty members, who served as their advisors.

Elizabethtown College students named to fall 2018 dean's list
Elizabethtown College announced the names of students whose outstanding academic performances have earned them the recognition of being included on the fall 2018 dean's list. Students on the dean's list are full-time undergraduate students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.60 or higher in 14 or more credit hours, of which at least 12 credits are letter-graded course work.

Bloomsburg University Forensics Team places fifth at Pennsylvania Forensic Association (PFA) Championship
The Bloomsburg University Forensic (Speech and Debate team) won the fifth place Team Sweepstakes trophy at the 2019 Pennsylvania Forensic Association (PFA) Championship Tournament held at Lafayette College on Feb. 16-17, 2019. Bloomsburg competed against Wilkes University, Lafayette College, St. Joseph's University, Penn State University, West Chester University, and Grove City College. Six of eleven Bloomsburg University students won speech and debate awards at the state tournament.

Local Students Named to Dean's List at Loyola University Maryland
Loyola University Maryland has announced the members of its fall 2018 Dean's List. Bloomsburg University Forensics Team Third at Recent Competition.
The Bloomsburg University Forensics (Speech and Debate) team won the 3rd Place Team Sweepstakes Award out of 12 schools at the CFA/Harold Cox Speech and Debate Tournament held at Wilkes University on Feb. 1-2, 2019. Six out of eight BU students participating in the tournament won speech and debate awards. Bloomsburg competed against St. Joseph's University, George Mason University, Rollins College, Lynchburg University, Shepherd University, Bryn Mawr College, Liberty University, Wilkes University, Misericordia University, Trinity College, and Luzerne County Community College.

Wilkes University Theatre Presents Cabaret, Feb. 21- 24
Wilkes University Theatre presents the Tony awarding-winning musical, Cabaret. The performances will take place on Feb. 21, 22, and 23 at 8 p.m. with matinee performances on Feb. 23 and 24 at 2 p.m. The production is at Wilkes' Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts, 239 S. A total of 1,513 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Fall 2018 semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. Bloomsburg University Forensics team takes third at Virginia tournament
The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Forensics (speech and debate) team won the third place Sweepstakes Award out of seven schools at the Randolph-Macon College Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament in early December in Ashland, Virginia. Bloomsburg competed against Randolph-Macon College, University of Richmond, Lord Fairfax Community College, Florida College, Shepherd University, and the University of Lynchburg. Nine of sixteen BU students attending took home speech and/or debate awards.

Bloomsburg University Speech-Language Pathology students receive White Coats
Twenty-six second-year students in the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders master's degree program in Speech-Language Pathology recently held its White Coat ceremony at Rolling Pines Golf Course and Banquet Facility. The White Coat ceremony honors the transition from full-time, in-class work to full-time clinical externship work. The White Coats were presented to the BU students by Shaheen N. Awan, Ph.D. Chairperson, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders; Shelley Scarpino, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders; and Patricia Lawton, associate professor, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The Bloomsburg University Forensics team (Speech and Debate Team) won the second-place sweepstakes award (out of nine teams) at the Collegiate Forensic Association's annual Holiday Tournament held at Shippensburg University, Nov. 2-3, 2018. Ten out of 19 BU students at the competition won speech and/or debate awards.

Wilkes University Students Inducted into Pi Kappa Delta
Five Wilkes University students were inducted into Pi Kappa Delta, the speech and debate/forensics honor society. In order to become a member, students must participate in three competitive events throughout the school year, participate in the speech and debate team sponsored community service event and attend weekly practices and meetings. A ceremony for their induction was held on Nov. 1, 2018.

Wilkes University Students Inducted into Lambda Pi Eta
Eight Wilkes University students were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association. A ceremony for their induction was held on Nov. 1, 2018. In order to become a member, students must complete 60 semester credit-hours, obtain a minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 3.0, complete the equivalent of 12 semester credit-hours in communication studies core curriculum and have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for all communication studies courses.

Twenty-four Wilkes University students earned leadership positions with WilkesNow. WilkesNow is a student-run television program which educates young media professionals and provides services to the local community on cable channel 97 for Service Electric Cable, Wilkes-Barre, and one closed-circuit channel.

BU Third at Collegiate Forensics Competition
The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania forensics team captured the third place Sweepstakes Award at the Collegiate Forensic Association's annual fall tournament held at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.V. on Oct. 19-20, 2018. Eleven out of the 18 BU students won awards, including first and second place in parliamentary debate in a field of 21 teams. Amy Bitar took second in the dramatic duo with Tarah Kelley; was third in place declamation; fourth in persuasive speaking; and fifth in pentathlon. Alli Robbins was second in persuasive speaking, second in after-dinner speaking; and sixth in parliamentary debate with Adam Phillips. Adam Phillips was sixth in parliamentary debate with Alli Robbins. Noah Roux took first place parliamentary debate with Thomas Weber; first in best speaker parliamentary debate (out of 42 speakers); and was fourth in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Tarah Kelley was second in dramatic duo with Amy Bitar; third in persuasive speaking; sixth in Poetry; and sixth in Pentathlon Katarina Solovey was fifth in poetry Katie Rose took fourth place communication analysis Thomas Weber took first in parliamentary debate with Noah Roux (Out of 21 teams); was fifth in best speaker parliamentary debate (out of 42 speakers); and sixth in communication analysis. Shawn Edwards was second in parliamentary debate with Eric Musgrove. Eric Musgrove was second in parliamentary debate with Shawn Edwards. Andrew Kline was fifth in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Also competing for Bloomsburg University were Emme Reiser, Julia Pittre, Alyssah Dombek, Bradley Bohm, Isaac Osborn, Jonathan Roe, and Taylor Baker. Neil Strine, Ph.D., director of forensics, and Michael Martin, Ph.D., associate professor of English, served as speech and debate judges for Bloomsburg at the tournament. Erin Brummett, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication studies, assisted with coaching students on the team.
